TEEJ DAY CELEBRATION 2023

Teej is a celebration of love, devotion, and the beauty of nature. It allows people to come together, strengthen bonds, and revel in the joy of the monsoon season. It's a festival that showcases the rich cultural heritage of India and is cherished by women for the opportunity it provides to express their devotion and love for their spouses.

Teej is a vibrant and culturally significant Hindu festival celebrated primarily by women in India, especially in the northern regions like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. This festival is dedicated to the celebration of the monsoon season, the bond between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and the well-being and prosperity of married couples. Teej is marked by a variety of customs, rituals, and festivities, making it an essential part of India's cultural tapestry.

Key features and elements of the Teej festival include:

  1. Celebration of Monsoon: Teej typically falls during the monsoon season, celebrating the arrival of rains that rejuvenate the parched land. It's a time when nature blooms with lush greenery, colorful flowers, and flowing rivers.

  2. Dedication to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati: Teej is closely associated with the divine love story of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that on this day, Parvati prayed for Lord Shiva's companionship and underwent rigorous fasting, eventually winning his heart. This story symbolizes the strength of marital bonds.

  3. Fasting and Prayers: Many women observe a fast on Teej, where they abstain from food and water throughout the day, breaking it only after the moonrise. They pray for the well-being and longevity of their husbands and for a harmonious married life.

  4. Traditional Attire and Adornments: Women often wear colorful traditional attire, especially green, which symbolizes growth and fertility. They also apply intricate mehendi (henna) designs on their hands and feet as a part of the celebration.

  5. Songs and Dances: Teej is known for its lively songs and dances, where women gather to sing and dance, often in groups. These performances are a way to express joy and celebrate the occasion.

  6. Swings: Decorative swings, often adorned with flowers and bright fabrics, are set up during Teej. Women and young girls enjoy swinging as part of the festivities.

  7. Exchanging Gifts: Families exchange gifts, especially among married couples and daughters, to celebrate the occasion and strengthen familial bonds.

  8. Processions: In some regions, grand processions are organized, featuring idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, along with traditional music and dance.

  9. Community Celebrations: Teej is not limited to homes; communities and organizations often organize public celebrations, involving various cultural programs, competitions, and feasts.

  10. Regional Variations: While the essence of Teej remains the same, there can be regional variations in customs and traditions associated with the festival.

Teej festival celebration at the Global Group of Institution on August 21, 2023, was a wonderful and culturally enriching event. Teej is indeed an important festival for married women, and it holds great significance in Hindu culture, particularly in North India.

It's heartening to know that the Principal, GCOP, Dr. Deepak Kumar and Principal, GCET, Dr. Mithlesh Sharma emphasized the importance of the day and shared insights about the festival's origins. Teej's association with the holy union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as well as its connection to the monsoon and the flourishing of nature, adds depth to the celebration.

The involvement of students in activities like applying mehendi, giving performances such as funny dances and Bhangra, and showcasing talents like solo singing adds vibrancy to the event. Teej is traditionally celebrated with songs and dances, and it's great to see that these traditions were upheld during the celebration.

It's evident that both faculty members and students put in a lot of effort to make the day special for women and create a memorable celebration. Their hard work and dedication have clearly paid off.

The concluding words expressing gratitude to everyone who participated in the event highlight the sense of unity and togetherness that such celebrations bring. Overall, it seems like a successful and joyous Teej festival celebration at Global College of Pharmacy.
